About Glen McMillan
Glen McMillan is a disability advocate, website developer and the CEO of Children with Disability NZ, working to improve inclusion, accessibility and opportunities for disabled children and families across New Zealand.
Driven by lived experience
Glen’s work is shaped by lived experience and a strong belief that disabled children should be visible, included and considered in the design of public spaces and communities.
Through Children with Disability NZ, Glen has focused on practical inclusion projects including accessible playground advocacy, inclusive online resources and awareness initiatives that help shift public understanding around disability and belonging.
Building a network of inclusion
Rather than focusing on a single website or project, Glen has been developing a connected network of inclusion-focused websites that support families, councils, schools and communities in different ways.
Accessible Playgrounds NZ
Helping families discover accessible and inclusive playgrounds across New Zealand through real-world information and mapping tools.
Inclusive Playground Equipment NZ
Providing guidance around inclusive playground design, accessible equipment and lived-experience advocacy for better public spaces.
Inclusive World NZ
Creating inclusive educational resources, children’s books, disability awareness tools and downloadable content designed to normalise inclusion.
Advocating for accessible playgrounds
Glen has been actively involved in raising awareness around accessible playground design and the importance of ensuring disabled children can participate in play alongside their peers.
His advocacy work has included promoting wheelchair-accessible swings, inclusive seesaws, accessible surfacing and better consideration of real-world access barriers faced by families visiting playgrounds.
Website design and SEO experience
Glen also has more than 20 years of experience in website design and search engine optimisation. After semi-retiring from commercial website work, he began using those skills to build online infrastructure for disability advocacy, inclusion projects and community awareness initiatives.
This combination of lived experience, advocacy and technical knowledge has helped create a growing online network focused on accessibility, inclusion and positive social change.
A vision for inclusion
Glen believes inclusion should not be treated as an afterthought. Whether designing playgrounds, websites, educational resources or community spaces, the goal should be to create environments where disabled children and families feel welcomed, included and able to participate fully.
His work continues to focus on helping communities better understand accessibility, encouraging practical inclusion and creating resources that support disabled children and their families throughout New Zealand and beyond.
Building inclusion one step at a time
Through advocacy, accessible playground initiatives and a growing network of inclusion-focused websites, Glen McMillan continues to work towards a future where disabled children can play, learn, participate and belong alongside everyone else.
The goal is simple — create a world where accessibility and inclusion are considered from the beginning, not added later as an afterthought.
